Another iPod touch deficiency: No volume buttons

The iPod touch appears to lack volume buttons. That may mean that one would need to unlock the screen before adjusting the volume.

The iPhone gets around this by having dedicated volume control buttons on the side.

Unless there is some other convenient way of adjusting the volume, the lack of volume buttons on the iPod touch would be quite annoying.

It's the same as any other iPod...
But some volume buttons like the iPhone's would have been cool

Not really. On the previous iPods, you can adjust the volume using the clickwheel, without having to look at the iPod.

DEFINITELY NOT THE SAME AS ANY OTHE IPOD. WHEN I'M AT THE GYM AND SOMEBODY SAYS SOMETHING ALL I HAVE TO DO IS REACH DOWN AND SWIPE THE CLICKWHEEL TO ADJUST VOLUME. I'VE ALREADY ORDERED A TOUCH, BUT I WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IF IT TAKES AS MUCH EFFORT AS PEOPLE ARE SAYING TO ADJUST THE VOLUME.

Are the headphones the same as the iPhone? If so, then you can pause a song or skip to the next song without touching the iPod. Also, I thought to access the iPod functions all you have to do is press the button twice. On my iPhone I have to unlock it first, then access the iPod functions.

The earbuds that ship with the Touch are just earbuds. There's no microphone or pause/answer button on them.

The lack of volume buttons isn't that much of a problem. I've bumped the volume with a touch wheel by accident about as often as I've used it on purpose.

(And after owning a RAZR for several years I can tell you that edge-mounted buttons can be more of a curse than a blessing...)

Actually, you can easily adjust the volume on the ipod touch.

When you're listening to the song and the touch goes in to sleep mode, press "the wake button" twice in a row as if you're double clicking a mouse on a computer. You don't even have to unlock it.

I rather like the feature, myself. =]]

i just opened my ipod touch and i love it and everything apple. i found a way to turn up the volume. when a song is playing and at the bottom is a control where you can change the song underneath that is a volume slider. worked for me and zeppelin is much louder.

please could someone tell me how to slide the volume control.. it won't touch slide and it is so loud.. seems jammed. Any advice to a novice user?

in the settings options, there is 1 that you can LOCK the volume at the level you want. Yours must be set way too high.

actually if the touch is playing music but the screen is off, just double tap the home button. It brings up the volume control and let's you skip tracks.

for some reason today when I tuned off my iPod a picture of a little speaker with dots under it came up and then went away. it was the same thing that you see on your mac computer when you change the volume. anybody know why?

Most of these questions would not have to be asked if Apple had only provided a decent user manual. The online manual is not much better than the ridiculous pamphlet that comes in the box.

Very common:
If you have "Alarm" application installed, that will appear.

how do you put volume on this thing? i have tried everything and the song shows as playing but theres no volume

My iPod's volume is constantly stuck at the highest level..I'll slide the volume lower but it'll still remains high. I've tried tweaking around with the settings on the iPod, and even restored it using iTunes once, but the problem still persists. Anyone know why this could happening, and how I could fix it? I'm afraid it's either being caused by downloaded apps, or that there's a defect in the iPod itself..

I had the same thing happen to mine (the volume was stuck on high). I went into settings and locked the volume at about the halfway point, and the problem seemed resolved. i went back in and unlocked it, and it was fine again.

i have no "alarm" app on my touch but i also get that weird speaker icon and the little dots. Thats the way the volume appears on an iphone and i want to know how to work it.?

Seriously guys. The Touch may not have come with a manual, but it's a pretty straightforward gadget that just needs a little self-experimenting. And the "lack" of volume buttons on the side is not an inconvenience at all. Like previously stated, just double push the "home" button, and a little box will pop up or you can manually slide the volume when playing your music.

The area and 'silver dot' is volume during a song

Yes..Thank you so much! When I first did that, it took me to the next song, but now as I am listening to Southside, I used the little silver dot, slid it down and whoa, it lowers the volume!
Thanks Anonymous :)

I have all the tricks down pact. I just don't know how to make the volume box animation from the 2G appear, it comes up randomly when I hold my touch sideways.

HELP!! i just buy a used ipod touch 3G for $160 but the itunes program didn't recognise it, ant that make me suspect that the ipod I buy is fake How can I know for shure? the other reason that make me think that is that the icons dont look the same and didn't apear to have the same functions.

volume slide comes on when i plug the speaker to it but it wont slide higher or lower .just stays in the middle.

The issue is how to adjust the volume when the bar does not appear at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes if you turn it sideways it will appear but not always. It is more of a problem watching video or playing games than listening to music.
